At Visionary we believe it’s our responsibility to mentor and foster the next generation of business and engineering leaders. Yes, we have college interns like a lot of companies, but we wanted to do something even more substantial, something that could begin making a difference in someone’s life even earlier. Thus, the high school Internship Program was born. This program aims to bring high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors into our offices to learn a combination of technical skills, soft skills, professionalism, and on the job training.
Once we started, we never looked back. And now we are getting ready to recruit for our second year! It has been an amazing experience for us and for our Interns. We’ve learned a lot and continue to grow and optimize the program in new ways.
Here’s how it works. The program is designed over three years, from January to May of each year, currently (beginning in 2025, this will change to run throughout the entire school year). Every Fall, we recruit a new group of students from local high schools to begin Year 1 of the program. During this time, they will visit our office twice a month for training. At the end of each semester, they will present a final Capstone Project showcasing the knowledge and skills they learned to family, school staff and the Visionary team. There is also a summer session, from June to August, where they will intern for 3 weeks straight at our office three days a week. The summer session provides additional training and hands-on experience that prepares the students for industry certification programs.
